Brisbane winger Corey Oates says his confidence is back after recovering from what he calls the three worst games of his NRL career.

Oates has struggled badly since making his State of Origin debut but played himself back into top form with a hat-trick against Parramatta last week.

It was a timely performance from the 21-year-old, who became a target for opposition kickers after revealing a lack of poise under the high ball.

Oates had consecutive shockers against Penrith, the Sydney Roosters and St George Illawarra, and says he's beat himself up for dropping balls even a "10-year-old could catch".

"I've let down myself (after) how good I started this year," he told reporters on Monday.

"After the Origin series, I've probably come out and played my three worst games of my career.

"I'm not real happy with my own performance and the fans aren't too happy, either."

But Oates said he felt as if he'd turned a corner against the Eels, when he crossed for his second three-try haul of the year.

"It was probably one of my better games in the last month," he said.

"But I still feel like I've got a fair few things to work on, obviously - a couple of dropped balls there, that one turned into a try.

"My confidence is right up there at the moment.

"I'm one to sort of sit on things and let it get to me, but the last couple of weeks I've been trying to not let it get in my head too much."

The Broncos take on Canterbury on Thursday night at Suncorp Stadium.
