Benji Marshall will likely miss St George Illawarra's clash with South Sydney on Thursday night due to his ongoing hamstring injury.
Marshall has played just three of the Dragons' past eight games and after experiencing tightness in last week's win over Canberra, is yet to train this week.
"We're going to get a revisit to the physio this afternoon and we'll find out a lot more then. But it's highly unlikely (he will play)," Dragons coach Paul McGregor said.
Marshall, who is under pressure to earn another contract, will be replaced by Josh McCrone.
The club's win over Canberra was their first in the five matches Marshall has played in the halves this season, while McCrone has tasted success in his four of his five matches.
"(Josh) has played good footy at the club, the combination with him and Gareth is really good, they've won four out of five games together.
"Benji is obviously an elite player, you miss his services when he is not there, but we've got a real handy player in Josh McCrone to come in for him."
